Day 22: Put your music on shuffle and post the first 10 songs

99494339-24FE-4318-AA5E-FB5FE7D36B5EI have a varied taste in music and I think having 2220 songs shows that variety. I put my iPod on shuffle without knowing what would turn up and thankfully it wasn’t anything too embarrassing though I will admit 32D008E7-0D60-4CA3-BCC8-73A8F9863BFDnumber 11 was the “Doctor Who” theme song.

MGMT – Weekend Wars
MGMT is the definition of guilty pleasure for my ears.
Icona Pop – I Love It (feat. Charli XCX)
This is one of those songs you here when watching your favorite show (in this case “Girls”) and can’t get the song out of your head. The solution becomes download the song and listen to it on repeat in an attempt to get it to stop making you hum the words you don’t even know. P.S. it didn’t work.
Black Veil Brides – F.E.A.R. Transmission 1: Stay Close
This isn’t really a song but one of four “F.E.A.R. Transmissions” that play on Black Veil Brides’ album Wretched and DE2BE4B0-E172-4CEE-99B6-715186B393E3Divine.
Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.) – The Hangman
I really loved this band’s album and was happy one of the songs appeared in the first 10 of this challenge. Seeing as each member came from a different Warped Tour success band it’s a blend of different elements from some of the great bands that came off that tour.
Nirvana – Son Of A Gun
I’ve been very vocal about my love for 4820FC27-64B4-4233-8525-432DCAD36906Nirvana and with the amount of their songs on my iPod it shouldn’t be shocking that one showed up to the challenge.
Foo Fighters – Breakout
Ironic that the song to play after Nirvana was Dave Grohl’s band after Nirvana ended. I’m not the biggest Foo Fighters fan but I did download their grates hits album because all the songs I do love were on it. Given Grohl’s recent injury during a show I think we can all agree he’s a true rock star who powered through a broken leg to finish the show.
Chris Isaak – Wicked Game
I’ve no excuse.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll
I dare you not to want to dance.
Dynamite Boy – I Want It That Way
Seeing as I grew up with boy bands and pop princesses but I can no longer stomach them this is the best alternative. the Punk Goes Pop album can be a mixture of funny and frankly better versions of the songs you grew up with.
The Verve – Weeping Willow
I love The Verve and I was so excited when they announced a new album all those years after their first. I think they’re understated and mellow which is perfect when you’re trying to relax but don’t want to listen to orchestras.

Day 21: What three lessons do you want your children to learn from you

To start, I would like to issue a small disclaimer.

I have a hard time trying to think of what I would teach my children seeing as I have no intention of ever having children due to a medical issue and a lack of patience with toddlers. These are the things I’m going to strive to teach my nephew every time I see him.

Happiness
Happiness should be a given but too many people get too caught up in the things that suck the life out of you; work, money, life, etc. Are you really happy? Do you even know? Sometimes it’s the little things in life that need to be the alarm reminding you of what’s truly making you smile. A family member, a hobby or even thunderstorm can transport you to the land of bliss. I’m stressed because I’m a student and navigating university is overwhelming but at least I’m happy.

Nerdy is better than bully
Who cares if it isn’t “cool” to read comics, play cards or read books? Never down anyone and never let anyone down you for enjoying the more nerdy side of life. I’ve known too many people, myself included, that are looked at strange or made fun of for liking things that are considered geeky or stupid. I love literature, history and Doctor Who and I’m not afraid to show it off.

Seeing beauty in the ordinary
Beauty is around us at all times and it takes many different forms. It’s not necessarily a Victoria Secret model or a 400-year-old painting hanging on a museum wall. Ordinary acts of kindness are beautiful. One of the most amazing and beautiful things I’ve done is volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in Morningside, Detroit and getting to see a community come together to clear abandoned lots and build homes. I’ve been many places and still am floored by the beauty of a forest, monument or lake.

Day 20: Post three celebrity crushes

Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands.

Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands.

Johnny Depp
This shouldn’t exactly come as a surprise seeing as I’ve mentioned on more than one occasion my love of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton combined. I’ve had a crush on Depp for years and I don’t know where it originated from but it was likely from “Edward Scissorhands.” He’s the master of quirky characters but he can make your heart break for characters like George Jung from “Blow.” I find him versatile seeing as he’s done horror, thriller, comedy, drama and musical and he makes it all seem so natural. My favorite of his characters? Probably a tie between Edward and and Barnabus Collins.

Tom Hiddleston at Nerd HQ.

Tom Hiddleston
I’m next to positive I am one of the few who became aware of Tom Hiddleston through his work in Shakespeare rather than the Marvel Universe. Most know him as Loki, the god of mischief from “The Avengers” and the Thor movies but I know him as Prince Hal and Henry V from Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part I & II and Henry V. I’m a Shakespeare nerd and when I bought The Hollow Crown, I absolutely loved his portrayal of the character. He may be my eternal “Man crush Monday.”

Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman.

Alexander Skarsgard
Another of my vampire loves but even when he walks off set I adore him. I was a big “True Blood” fan back in the day and loved the dry yet mischievous Eric Northman (please note, I was Team Eric, not Team Bill). I’m looking forward to the new season of “American Horror Story” honestly for many reasons but a huge part of it is because he’s joining the cast.

Bonus: Tom Hiddleston giving the opening monologue from Henry V while on “Hoppus on Music.”
