Day 20: Post three celebrity crushes

Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands.

Johnny Depp
This shouldn’t exactly come as a surprise seeing as I’ve mentioned on more than one occasion my love of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton combined. I’ve had a crush on Depp for years and I don’t know where it originated from but it was likely from “Edward Scissorhands.” He’s the master of quirky characters but he can make your heart break for characters like George Jung from “Blow.” I find him versatile seeing as he’s done horror, thriller, comedy, drama and musical and he makes it all seem so natural. My favorite of his characters? Probably a tie between Edward and and Barnabus Collins.

Tom Hiddleston
I’m next to positive I am one of the few who became aware of Tom Hiddleston through his work in Shakespeare rather than the Marvel Universe. Most know him as Loki, the god of mischief from “The Avengers” and the Thor movies but I know him as Prince Hal and Henry V from Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part I & II and Henry V. I’m a Shakespeare nerd and when I bought The Hollow Crown, I absolutely loved his portrayal of the character. He may be my eternal “Man crush Monday.”

Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman.

Alexander Skarsgard
Another of my vampire loves but even when he walks off set I adore him. I was a big “True Blood” fan back in the day and loved the dry yet mischievous Eric Northman (please note, I was Team Eric, not Team Bill). I’m looking forward to the new season of “American Horror Story” honestly for many reasons but a huge part of it is because he’s joining the cast.

Bonus: Tom Hiddleston giving the opening monologue from Henry V while on “Hoppus on Music.”

Day 19: Discuss your first love

Stuart Townsend as Lestat.

Stuart Townsend as Lestat.

Your first love doesn’t always have to be a real person. It could be a character in a movie that changed you, made you snap or opened your eyes.

I’ve stated before in a previous post that “Queen of the Damned” was a wake-up call for me. I had always been terrified of horror movies and was nowhere near excited to watch the latest book-to-film adaptation seeing as “Interview with the Vampire,” Anne Rice’s first book in The Vampire Chronicles, had scared the bejesus out of me. When the opening credits faded in with statues and violins easing my fears, I was hooked into watching the film with my mom.

I’ve never looked back.

At the time, I hadn’t read the books and seeing as I was only nine I didn’t have high expectations for films that didn’t have animation involved. I know now that many of the fans of The Vampire Chronicles hated “Queen of the Damned” but it will always have a special place in my heart.

Scratch that, Lestat will always have a special place in my heart.

One of the smirks I still swoon over.

A while back on my private Instagram account I had posted a picture of Stuart Townsend as Lestat with the caption “seriously have been in love with him since I was 10.” I’m 22 and still hopelessly in love with that character.

Don’t ask me why either because it’s not as if he’s a knight in shining armor. I think it’s the combination of arrogance, mystery and self-loathing all in one and I was too young to understand what many have described as the erotic element of vampires. What I saw was a historic and handsome individual who survived from other’s life forces. I absolutely love the vampire turned rock star who makes makes music look good.

Stuart Townsend’s Lestat will always have a special place in my heart because I still sign like a schoolgirl when he comes on the screen and I still nearly swoon when he smirks. I love vampire movies and have seen many but my heart always goes back to Lestat.
